Sunday Ramblings...Teeth Whitening

There's an ad on TV right now (at least the one channel I watch...the news) for a special whitening toothpaste. It goes something like this:
"Over the past several years your teeth have smiled, laughed and yellowed.
They've chewed and shined and yellowed. They've blah blah blah blah blah and yellowed..."
You get the idea. The commercial concludes with the statement "If you're not whitening, you're yellowing."
I could take time now to rant about how over the top our society has gone with looks and vanity. However, it is more important that we focus on that last statement, "If you're not whitening, you're yellowing." I've always heard a different phrase but that toothpaste phrase reminds me of it: "If you're not drawing closer to God, you're slipping farther from  Him." That's right, there is no neutral. We are going forward or going back.
Now, different people are obviously at different places in there relationship with God. For some people just making a habit to pray daily is drawing closer to Him. Other people need to turn the next page in a super advanced theological study guide to deepen their understanding of mysteries like the Trinity and angelic happenings.
Spiritual decay sets in the minute we don't depend upon the Lord, so trusting Him is the most basic step. We are not self made people but self-reliance can develop the moment we forget the Lord. There are many different ways you can start drawing nearer to God today.
1. It's Sunday...go to Church! It is easy to make excuses like the pastor has an annoying way of sharing the message or the music is too charismatic. If you are in a Bible believing Church then remember you are there to praise our Father. Overlook the little things that may get on your nerves, if the fundamentals are there then we need to be there.
2. Start devoting time to God, daily. During this time read your Bible or a devotional you like. It is easy to make up excuses to stray from this daily regimen  Consider it your daily soul meal. I know I sure wouldn't go an entire day without a real meal so why would we starve our souls?
3. Have an active prayer life. I'll admit that this is the hardest part for me. When I take time solely for prayer my mind starts to wander and I lose focus. The solution? A prayer partner. If you're married use your spouse. This will help your relationship with them and your relationship with God. If you live alone, start a prayer journal. Write down your requests, praises and the answers you've received.
These are all mere suggestions. You might have something totally different on your plate today. But please remember that we are eternal souls trapped, for a short time, in mortal bodies. We have eternity to live and the actions we take today will determine if we spend that eternity in Heaven or in the loneliest, most frightening place ever created, Hell.

James 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
